Installing an eSIM on Xiaomi (Redmi, POCO)
Installing an eSIM takes about two minutes. Pick your phone brand below and follow the three parts: install the profile, set the APN if your plan needs one, and flip the right switches before you fly.
Pick your phone brand
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO share one system. On HyperOS (Xiaomi 14 and newer, most phones after the 2024 update) look under "SIM cards & mobile networks"; on older MIUI phones the same options sit under "Mobile networks → SIM card manager". Check your version under Settings → About phone.

Install
- Open Settings. Connect to Wi-Fi and keep the QR code from your order at hand — on a computer, a second phone or a printout.
- Choose SIM cards & mobile networks. It sits in the first group, right under Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On older MIUI look for Mobile networks.
- Tap Add eSIM. Some models first show Use eSIM or Manage eSIM — go in there, switch eSIM on and then add the plan. On older MIUI: Mobile networks → SIM card manager. Your current SIM stays where it is.
- Choose Scan QR code. If the phone first searches for carrier plans, wait a moment — the QR code option appears underneath.
- Scan the QR code from your order. Only have this one phone? Take a screenshot of the QR code, open it in Gallery and tap the Google Lens icon — the phone offers to add the eSIM.
- Name the plan and confirm. Type a name you will recognise the plan by (e.g. Travel) and tap Confirm. Downloading the profile usually takes under a minute — stay on Wi-Fi until it finishes.
APN — Turkey
- Choose Access Point Names. This chapter is for Turkey plans only — every other plan sets its APN by itself. The APN value is on your order page, next to the QR code. Path: Settings → SIM cards & mobile networks → your eSIM (on older MIUI: Mobile networks → eSIM).
- Tap New APN. On some versions the New APN button sits at the bottom of the screen instead of + at the top.
- Enter the APN and save. Type the APN value from your order into both Name and APN. Leave everything else as it is, then tap ✓ at the top (or ⋮ → Save).
- Select the new APN. Pick the access point you just added — the filled dot means it is the one in use.
Settings
- Use the eSIM for mobile data. In SIM cards & mobile networks the eSIM must be switched on, and under Default settings Data must point at the eSIM. Calls and texts can stay on SIM 1.
- Turn off Data switching. Further down the same page. Left on, it lets the phone fall back to your home SIM — and that means roaming charges. Also make sure Mobile data is on.
- Turn on Data roaming. Settings → SIM cards & mobile networks → your eSIM → Data roaming. A travel eSIM only ever works in roaming.
On arrival
- After landing: toggle airplane mode. The internet only starts working in the destination country. Once there, turn airplane mode on, wait 10 seconds and turn it off (quicker: the airplane icon in Control Centre). Activation can take 5–15 minutes.
